The Department of African American and African Studies (AAAS) at The Ohio State University (Ohio State) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in Global Black Studies beginning August 15, 2025. We seek an emerging Black Studies and/or African Studies scholar from any discipline whose research and teaching interests address, in humanities’ perspective, the intersection of blackness/nativeness, inequality, distributive (in)justice, and colonial/postcolonial histories. We are particularly interested in candidates who focus on Black nation(s), diaspora(s), and/or migrant space(s) outside of the United States. While open to all areas of specialization, applicants should demonstrate their commitment to Global Black Studies, broadly defined, and work within one or multiple fields of humanistic study.

Responsibilities

• Following a two-year Postdoctoral Scholar appointment, the Postdoctoral Scholar will then transfer to a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor within the Department of African-American and African Studies and the tenure clock will begin

MU Libraries seeks an innovative and collaborative librarian to serve as Social Sciences and Copyright Librarian.  Reporting to the Head of Research and Information Services, this librarian will serve as a subject librarian for psychological sciences and additional social sciences for Ellis Library and as chair of the libraries’ copyright team.  Entry level and experienced librarians are encouraged to apply. Training and mentorship will be provided.

Description of Duties

Engages in library liaison activities with assigned academic disciplines in psychological sciences, geography, cultural studies (including Black Studies, Women & Gender Studies, etc.) and other assigned areas within social sciences.

• Serves as a proactive ambassador to highlight Libraries’ services, resources, and partnerships to meet student and faculty needs.
• Keeps abreast of trends and developments in information resources, scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and open educational resources, especially in assigned disciplines.
• Supports open data and research impact.

Provides the entire range of in-person and online reference and research support services (some evening and weekend hours required), providing high quality and timely services.

• Provides research support to students and faculty in assigned disciplines, and general research support as needed.
• Participates in the planning and delivery of team-based virtual research services (i.e., chat, text, email, and telephone).
• Collaborates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of relevant online tools and services in order to integrate library services and resources into the workflow of teaching, learning, and research.

Provides instruction/information literacy services.

• Plans, coordinates, and delivers in-person and online library instruction that is inclusive and incorporates active learning and assessment.
• Develops and maintains online guides and digital learning objects to support courses and disciplinary research.
• Contributes, as needed, to teaching general and interdisciplinary instruction.

Contributes to building and managing collections that are forward-looking, and that meet the research and curricular needs of assigned departments.

• Communicates regularly with faculty regarding collection priorities, needs, and access.
• Maintains familiarity with publishing and research trends.
• Manages budget allocations and expenditures and monitors usage patterns.

Chairs the MU Libraries’ Copyright Team to support patrons’ use of materials within copyright guidelines.

• Monitors changes to copyright law and best practices.
• Maintains the public guide to copyright.
• Provides instruction on copyright.
• Answers or refers patron questions regarding copyright and fair use.
• Coordinates meetings and agendas of the team.

Actively engages in networking, professional development, and other scholarly activities.

• Contributes to and learns from the profession through local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications.
• Identifies and integrates best practices in service, teaching and learning, and scholarly activity.

Advances the Libraries’ and University’s mission through service.

• Participates in committees and task forces within the Libraries, University, and the profession.
• Maintains professional collaborations with other campus constituencies, consortia colleagues, and community organizations.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in information and/or Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.

Summary:

The Program Associate is responsible for the daily operation of the Oral History Association. This position reports to the assistant and executive directors who manage workflow, and to the OHA Council which dictates the direction and overall governance of the organization. The Program Associate will be a direct employee of the Oral History Association but will work in the Executive Office located on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree with a master’s degree preferred. They should also have project management skills, a friendly customer service mindset, self-motivation, adaptability, a strong attention to detail, and writing and editing skills. Candidates should also be able to work collaboratively with others, and to either self-teach or find appropriate training for unfamiliar programs, concepts, etc. They should be comfortable using online software such as WordPress, QuickBooks, and membership and event registration software, or be able to quickly learn, maintain, and teach others how to use said software.

Experience with basic bookkeeping and financial management is preferred. Other desired skills include HTML/general website and hosting management experience, event planning experience, and a background in Public History, Oral History, other related fields, or working with other professional organizations.
